SUE COE

 


Sue Coe was born on 21.2.1951 to a working-class family in Tamworth town, Staffordshire County, England. Later her family moved to Hersham suburban village of Greater London. There they lived near a slaughterhouse. Coe developed passion to stop cruelty to animals. After receiving her Master of Arts degree from the Royal College of Art she moved to New York City where she lived between 1972 and 2001. In America she became an influential cultural figure. Coe is a graphic artist and visual essayist. Her works are highly political, anti-war, anti-capitalist and anti-fascist. Her commentary on political events and social injustice are published in newspapers, magazines and books. In her social protest art, she depicted the rights struggles of women, children, queers, animals, refugees, horrors of factory, zoos, prisons and political dissidents. Her prints, drawings and paintings are found in major art museums. Coe received a number of awards. Her works and awards are auctioned to raise funds for progressive causes.
