Tianmen Cave, known as Heaven's Gate, is on Tianmen Mountain 8 kilometers from Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, China. At 1,300 –1,519 mtrs, it is the highest natural arch in the world. Originally a cave, it became an arch in 263 AD when part of the cliff collapsed, creating a door-like opening. Formerly called Songliang Mountain, it was renamed Tianmen (Heaven’s Gate) after this event. The cave measures 131.5 meters tall, 57 meters wide, and 60 meters deep. A 999 step staircase, an escalator are available. The Tianmen Mountain Cableway is one of the world’s longest at 7,455 meters. Tianmen Temple is a Buddhist temple on the summit, rebuilt in 2002 with Tang Dynasty architecture.
