ALCOHOL PARACLITUS AN ENCYCLICAL BY POPE BENEDICT THE XV

Benedict XV, the 258th Pope, published an Encyclical (letter to the Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church) Alcohol Paraclitus (holy spirit) on 15th September 1921.

Alcohol Paraclitus is a papal order by Pope Benedict XV on 15.9.1921, addressing the social and moral issues of alcohol consumption, guiding the society against the harms of alcohol. Amid alcoholism's impact on families, economies, and health, it urged Catholics to promote sobriety and warned against the 'scourge' of drinking. Benedict XV emphasized alcohol's role in poverty and moral decay. He called for moderation and aid to those affected, as the Church's response to social upheavals and ethics. It advocated for education and legislation to curb alcohol abuse.
