Bronze Peace Statue in the Nagasaki Peace Park in Nagasaki, Japan. America dropped a second Atom Bomb, "Fat Man", on 9 August 1945 on Nagasaki, killing 70,000 people and destroying part of Nagasaki City.
Nagasaki Peace Park, in Nagasaki, Japan, is a memorial site dedicated to the victims of the atomic bombing on August 9, 1945. It is a symbol of peace and nuclear disarmament. Established in 1955 at the hypocenter of the explosion in 46.5 acres, it features several monuments, sculptures, and a Peace Statue. The 10 mtr bronze Peace Statue, by sculptor Seibo Kitamura, depicts a man, one hand pointing sky (symbolising threat of nuclear arms) and the other extended for peace. The closed eyes pray for the victims. Fountain of Peace, built in 1969, symbolizes hope and offers water to the victims, died of thirst. The Hypocenter Monument is a black stone pillar marking the spot of the atomic bombing. 400 sculptures and structures donated by countries worldwide, including the 'Peace Bell' and 'Children’s Peace Monument' are in the Park. Nagasaki Peace Hall, in the underground, has exhibits on the bombing and peace. The park commemorates the atomic bombing by the US, killing 74,000 people, injuring more. It reminds devastation by nuclear weapons and promotes global peace. The park is adjacent to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Hypocenter Park.
