The Dirty War in Argentina was the violence of the military dictatorship from 1976 to 1983. It was of human rights abuses, torture, and killings of opponents, left-wing activists, unionists, students, journalists, and intellectuals. President Juan Perón died in 1974. His wife Isabel led to military coup in March 1976. Military junta, led by Jorge Rafael Videla, implemented the "Process of National Reorganization." 300 detention camps were used for killings. 3000 babies of detained mothers were kidnapped. Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo formed, demanding justice. The dictatorship ended in 1983 after Argentina’s defeat in the Falklands War (1982) weakened the regime. Elections brought Raúl Alfonsín to power.
