Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman American Supreme Court Judge. She was worn in on 25th September 1981.
In 1981, Sandra Day O'Connor was the first woman to be nominated as a judge and confirmed to the US Supreme Court by the Republican President Ronald Reagan, who campaigned to elect a woman to the court. O'Connor was a Republican. Served as a judge in Arizona. But she was opposed by conservatives of the party. They believed she was not strong on anti-abortion and wouldn't overturn Roe Vs Wade (abortion right). O'Connor served from 1981 to 2006 under chief justices Warren E. Burger, William Rehnquist, and John Roberts before retiring. She voted on conservative lines. This put her to the center of the court. Born on 26.3.1930 in El Paso, Texas, she died at 93 on 1.12.2023.
