THE STATUE OF VARAHA IN THE RAMTEK TEMPLE MAHARASHTRA

The Statue of Varaha Murthy in human form up to the neck from the legs and with the head of a pig lifting a globe on his canines (conical pointed teeth) as an incarnation of Vishnu is normally installed in Hindu temples. It is propagated that in the Ramtek temple, the stone statue of a Pig is installed in the open ceiling mandap as a deterrent to Muslims wanting to vandalise the temple. Is the statue so hated that it drove the people away, discarding their committed task?
