APRIL THESES OF LENIN

Vladimir Lenin, on 17th April 1917, issued radical "April Theses" calling for Soviets to take power during the Russian Revolution.

Lenin’s April Theses were the radical program in Apr 1917 after returning to Russia. They called for no support to the Provisional Govt, an end to Russia’s involvement in World War I, land for peasants, transfer of power to the Soviets, and nationalisation of the banks. The theses shifted Bolshevik policy toward a direct push for socialist revolution rather than cooperation with the existing government. They became a key step toward the October Revolution later in 1917. Simply, Lenin said that Russia should be ruled by workers’ and soldiers’ councils, with peace, land reform, and socialist control of key institutions.
