Genghis Khan founder of the Mongol Empire captured Peking City (now Beijing) under the control of the Jurchen Dynasty Emperor Xuanzong of Jin on 1 June 1215 and looted for a month. Genghis Khan, born Temüjin around 1162, was the founder of the Mongol Empire. It became the largest contiguous (adjacent) empire in history after his demise. Rising from a tribal leader in the Mongolian steppes, he unified warring tribes through alliances, military campaigns, and strategic marriages. By 1206, he was proclaimed Genghis Khan (universal ruler). He conquered from the Pacific to the Caspian Sea, including parts of today's China, Persia, and Eastern Europe, by diplomacy, psychological warfare, and brutal military tactics.
